AutoZone, Inc. Distribution Center Fleet Maintenance Manager in Providence Forge, Virginia

SUMMARY:

AutoZone's Distribution Center Fleet Maintenance Manager supervises diesel and trailer mechanics that includes training, safety, service and facility spending accountability. Other primary responsibilities include managing a preventative maintenance program, including monitoring, reviewing, and analyzing existing procedures. This position also supports the Outbound Fleet objectives in order to maximize fleet performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leadership for maintenance staff to manage and maintain optimal safety and fleet efficiencies, within a set budget, a 24/7 private fleet operation of 70 tractors and 155 trailers, and within set service standards for picking up and delivering freight both to and from AutoZone stores, vendors and DCs

  • Oversees safety prevention, DOT, EPA and OSHA compliance at shop

  • Hires and manages staff

  • Monitors, develops and implements repair processes/programs to ensure the safe road readiness of the fleet

  • Reviews and drives the weekly work schedule of shop personnel

  • Communicates daily performance issues to management

  • Renewal of licenses, permits, and inspections

  • Evaluates equipment performance and recommend modifications and vendors based on maintenance and cost information

  • Analyzes service issues related to maintenance and perform root cause analysis

  • Ensures that inspection and maintenance procedures are within performance standards

  • Evaluates cost of vendor outsourcing and site management control

  • Develops annual maintenance budget plan for location

  • Reviews monthly spend for actual, forecast and plan and explain variance

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Leadership and coordination skills

  • 5+ years in a maintenance leadership position

  • College degree preferred

  • ASE certification preferred

  • Demonstrated experience with various maintenance software, on board computer systems, and MS Office

  • Heavy diesel truck and trailer mechanic skills

  • Familiarity with auxiliary power unit systems

  • Demonstrated knowledge of FMCSR 393, 395 and 396

  • Demonstrated knowledge of leading procedural groups:

  • Training and staffing, In-service, out-service, Information systems and on-board computers, Building maintenance, Fuel storage and dispensing, HAZMAT clean up, Tools and equipment, Preventative maintenance, Tires, Brakes, Warranty, Trailer Maintenance, Lift-gate maintenance, Air Conditioning, Fuel, oil and filters, Parts and inventory, Purchase order, Repair order, Vendor management, Maintenance performance metrics
