About The Role :

AutoZone is seeking a seasoned Architect to join our expanding Merchandising team, with a focus on driving key business initiatives that encompass both domestic and international strategies for the Merchandising organization. Architects collaborate with customers, business analysts, designers, and software developers to analyze, plan, design, and deliver innovative cloud-based solutions to complex, high-value business problems.

As an Architect embarking on AutoZone's transformative journey to the cloud, you will play a pivotal role in the transition and management of services/applications from on-premises to the cloud and developing a long-term technical vision and strategy for the Merchandising domain. Your focus will be on designing scalable applications, production operations, capacity planning, and performance management. This role offers a blend of teamwork and autonomy, coupled with the opportunity to architecting innovative solutions to complex technical challenges. You will be challenged to solve complex technical problems with unique solutions, identify improvements and work on implementing your recommendations.

Responsibilities :

  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture and other domain Architects and Stakeholders to develop and review all technology standards.

  • Map project business requirements to cloud systems/technical requirements to ensure they are in line with enterprise architectural plans and industry best practices.

  • Own the merchandising domain standards and review project designs and ensuring that solutions adhere to technology standards, are aligned with Business and IT strategy, and are appropriately robust.

  • Design cloud solution architectures and partner with the engineering teams to deliver business value through technical solutions.

  • Lead, direct, and produce technical cloud designs/architectures at a project, product, and program level with proficiency in the areas of disaster recovery, data integrity, service continuity, component redundancy, security, etc.

  • Participate in and lead high and low-level technology discussions with management, vendors, and tech leads.

  • Ensure cloud solutions and new features are designed and implemented according to established design and architectural standards and practices (and, where necessary, facilitate acceptable tradeoffs)

  • Review and analyze detailed business requirements; assist in prioritization and scoping of user stories to align customer expectations with current or future cloud capabilities.

  • Develop, test, and implement cloud technology solutions and report on delivery commitments to ensure solutions are implemented as expected and to agreed-upon timeframes.

  • Lead software developers in cloud application design and pattern, providing reference applications/architectures.

  • As needed, work as part of the development team, providing technical guidance and direction with examples, POCs, and prototypes.

  • Collaborate with execution teams to provide timely recommendations and drive solution design to the best possible outcomes that align with our Long-Term Strategy and Standards.

  • Collaborate with IT Leaders and Stakeholders to develop technology capability roadmaps to frame long-term IT strategy, analyzing the landscape for critical deficiencies or gaps.

    What We Will Need to See:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer-science or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in the IT industry with hands on development experience and appropriate depth in at least one technology stack

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical / Solutions Architect

  • Experience leading multiple dependent, parallel work streams a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and analytical skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex topics to a broad audience.

  • A systems thinker, able to move fluidly between high-level abstract thinking and detail-oriented implementation, able to summarize large amounts of information for multiple audiences.

  • Ability to independently research, assess, and compare new technologies, platforms, or tools and determine potential use for AutoZone.

  • A self-starter that is naturally inquisitive, requiring only small pieces to the puzzle, across many technologies, both new and legacy - able to quickly learn new technologies and tools.

  • A fact-driven decision maker, with an ability to make quick decisions in uncertain circumstances.

  • Broad and deep understanding of industry standard concepts, patterns of application architecture, patterns of architecture change, methodologies, and principles

  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying large-scale, highly available, robust software solutions, particularly using Service-Based and/or Event-Based Architectures

  • Experience with Cloud Providers, Hybrid Cloud. Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is preferred and multi-cloud a plus.
